
Daniele Vettorato works at EURAC Research in Italy, where he leads the research group on Urban and Regional Energy Systems.
He holds an MSc in Urban, Regional and Environmental Planning from the IUAV University of Venice and a Masters (MPhil) in Urban and Regional Planning for Developing Countries.
He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy.
Daniele has co-authored more than 65 publications with over 1000 citations and has been invited as a lecturer and speaker in more than 100 events, trainings and university courses. Outside Europe he has worked in Brazil, Chile, Cambodia, Kenya, Mozambique, UAE, Russia and China.
He is a member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) since 2008, where he served as a board member between 2017 and 2023. He is one of the Director of the Institute for Urban Excellence (IuE) and Founding member of the International Urban Professional Forum (IUPF).
He is currently serving the International Energy Agency as an expert in the TCP-Cities, EBC and SHC Tasks and Annexes on the topics of Urban/Energy Nexus, Positive Energy Districts and Solar Neighbourhood Planning. Daniele coordinates a group of 40 researchers at EURAC research – Italy and has been scientific coordinator and project manager in several EU co-funded projects including some Smart City and Communities Light House projects in Europe.
