Alraouf takes a human-centered approach to design that aspires to shape environmentally and socially just built-environments. He has advised organizations that range from the World Bank to the United Nations Development Program. He provides consultancy in numerous projects regionally and internationally and act as a consultant for international organizations include UNDP, UNEP, UN-Habitat, UNESCOW, ESCOWA, ICOMOS among others. He published more than 165 journal refereed papers, critical reviews, essays, in addition to books and book chapters. Alraouf writings have spanned many disciplines including research on Identity, Social Movements, Creativity, critical studies, tradition, heritage and globalization and their connection to the built environment. His writings were translated to Italian, German, Persian, Russian, Serbian, Austrian and Turkish. He was interviewed in prominent satellite networks including Euronews, BBC, CNN, and Aljazeera. He serves in editorial boards and acts as a reviewer for international journals and conferences. He was invited to act as a juror in international competitions across the globe. Alraouf has travelled widely and has been invited to present his insights and research outcomes in more than 40 countries at universities and international institutions. Alraouf is the recipient of many grants and awards.
