In his speech, Thom Mayne, Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, stated that amid global transformation, architects and urban planners must integrate urbanization concepts into nature as a driving force for urban development. Peter Latz, a German master of industrial heritage design, took landmark projects including the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord as examples to illustrate how design can revitalize derelict industrial sites and facilities, highlight the value of industrial culture, and fuel urban transformation and upgrading. A number of distinguished designers engaged in dialogues with the two masters to exchange Chinese and Western design philosophies and methodologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Tom.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5137\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Tom.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Tom-243x135.jpg 243w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"318\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/latz.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5138\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/latz.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.gdeas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/latz-255x135.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Running for eight consecutive days, the conference hosted more than a dozen thematic forums and seminars. Over 150 global speakers delivered presentations covering topics such as architectural design and urban character, livable residential areas and real estate design, park cities, integrated leisure resorts and cultural tourism, public space planning and design, smart landscape and digital cities. Professor Neil Kirkwood, Director of Harvard University\u2019s Center for Technology and Environment, drew on Thai cases to elaborate on how designers can play a constructive role within contemporary landscape and cultural contexts. Professor Zhang Li, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University, shared explorations of proactive healthy spaces through design cases of the Zhangjiakou Competition Zone for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the Big Air Shougang venue. Douglas Smith, Global President of EDSA, presented cases of sustainable development by applying landscape architecture to hospitality and tourism projects. Malcolm Smith, Global Director and Fellow of Master Planning &amp; Urban Design at Arup UK, outlined urban design approaches centered on sustainable development that accommodate multiple future scenarios.
